Why Run a World Cup Sweepstakes?

A sweepstakes is the ultimate low-friction game for office pools, friend groups, and families. Everyone gets randomized teams to root for during the tournament, making every single group stage match exciting.

Traditional sweepstakes are often unfair, leaving some participants with zero chance of winning. By using our Balanced Tiers mode, every player is guaranteed a fair mixture of top-tier favorites, solid contenders, and high-payout underdogs.

How to Run Your Sweepstakes

  1. Collect Names: Gather the list of players participating in your sweepstakes (supports up to 48 people).
  2. Paste Participants: Input one name per line in the input box on the left.
  3. Choose Drawing Mode: Select Balanced Tiers to ensure a fair draw or Completely Random for complete unpredictability.
  4. Draw & Share: Click Draw Teams. Use the copy buttons to instantly share the formatted Markdown table or clean text list in Slack, Discord, or WhatsApp.

Understanding the Expanded 48-Team World Cup Math

For the first time in history, the FIFA World Cup 2026 features 48 teams rather than the traditional 32. This expansion changes the tournament arithmetic significantly: the group stage now consists of 12 groups of 4 teams (generating 72 group stage matches).

Instead of only the top 2 teams advancing, the top 2 from each group plus the 8 best 3rd-place finishers advance to a newly introduced Round of 32 knockout phase. This brings the total match count to 104, extending the tournament to a full 39 days. Our Sweepstakes Generator dynamically manages the math for up to 48 slots, ensuring that no matter the size of your group, the distribution remains mathematically fair and balanced across all 48 qualifiers.

How Balanced Tiers Work

To keep the sweepstakes fair and exciting for everyone, our balanced drawing mode divides the 48 qualified countries into 3 distinct tiers based on team strength:

  • Tier 1 (Favorites): The top 12 contenders (e.g. France, Argentina, Brazil, England).
  • Tier 2 (Contenders): Mid-level teams (e.g. USA, Morocco, Austria, Japan).
  • Tier 3 (Underdogs): The remaining 24 longshot teams.

The generator shuffles each tier independently and distributes them evenly among the participants so that every player receives an equivalent ratio of favorites, contenders, and underdogs.
