What is leave bridging?

Leave bridging means taking 1–3 days of paid leave to connect a public holiday with an adjacent weekend, creating a long unbroken vacation streak.

Which holidays are included for India?

Only national-level public holidays are included: Republic Day, Holi, Good Friday, Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti, Labour Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti, and Christmas. State-specific holidays are not included.

What does the efficiency score mean?

Efficiency equals total streak days divided by leave days taken. A score of 4.0 means you get 4 free days for every 1 day of leave used. Higher scores mean better use of your leave balance.

Does this work for a standard Monday to Friday work week?

Yes. The tool assumes a Monday–Friday work week with Saturday and Sunday as rest days. All calculations are based on this standard schedule.

How the long weekend maximizer works

The tool looks at every public holiday in your country and checks whether taking 1, 2, or 3 days off work would "bridge" that holiday to an adjacent weekend — creating a continuous streak of free days. It then ranks every opportunity by total streak length and efficiency (streak days per day of leave taken).

For example, if a holiday falls on a Tuesday, taking Monday off connects it to the prior weekend — creating a 4-day stretch with just 1 leave day. If it falls on a Wednesday, taking both Monday and Tuesday off creates a 7-day streak (Sat + Sun + Mon leave + Tue leave + Wed holiday + Thu + Fri... wait, those aren't free — but the reverse: Thu holiday + Fri leave + weekend = 4-day streak with 1 leave). The tool calculates every permutation so you never miss an opportunity.

India note: Only central government / national-level holidays are included. State-specific holidays (like Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Onam in Kerala, or Chhath Puja in Bihar) vary by state and are not shown. Check your state government calendar for additional holidays.
